Don't Allow Events to Discourage You=Sir Charles tells Oko students
Dear Oko Students, You would alline with me on things I will point out clearly here. Be patients as I voice out to your conscience.
Many months ago, to be precisely, October 2018, we the end HND1 and ND 1 students of this noble institution of academic learning aspired to be your leaders as we felt from the constitutional requirements at we are both academically and security wise, qualified to contribute our quite to the development of our human existence through strong leadership, today that same election have lingered so much that. It has drown issues from within and Outside the institutions.
What's is the problem?-- ND Results Or Not. The Students Union Government constitution have a voice to leaned to this issue. It says in article XIV, Section II, Sub section C. That "He has at least 3.00 G.P.A. in the semester that proceeds the election". Also, the constitution in " Article II, Section I, sub section B, states that " this constitution shall be respected by any other constitution in the polytechnic concerning students, clubs association, departments, ETC". Its on this ground that I Comr. Onuorah C Charles (Sir Charles) wrote against the requirement provided by the desolved SIEC. In relation to same issues, I wrote to the then SUG president, A.K.A Obiadada who is the leader of the students to see that the constitution that empowered him as president have being violated. Yet there was no response. Thirdly I wrote to the students High Court, which I believe is the Last Hope of the common students to release an injunction prohibiting the SIEC of using unconstitutional requirements but my letter was not given required attention. Then finally I wrote to then acting rector who I believe is the father of the whole school, calling is attention to the wrong doing of the SIEC. Its on this last letter that the nation Association of Nigerian students NANS, waved into the matter, haven received Copies of my letters to the rector.
The election was suspended by the management on grounds of election malpractice from Some members of SIEC. Investigations went though and some of the aspirants were indicted. Its on this ground the constitution have a say again, in ARTICLE XIV, Section I, Sub section P, "That No inducement shall be used for campaign E.g. money, gifts etc. And in sub section Q, " That Anyone found offering Inducement to influence results shall be disqualified". This simply means that after the SIEC was dissolved and those aspirants involved were disqualified as the constitution stipulated, the right thing was to constitute a new SIEC and continue with the process. But this was not done. Its on this ground that we aspirants meet with the management after the last ASUP strike to fashion out way to go ahead with the election, but we where told that the constitution will be used.
Then Article XIV, Section VI, sub section A and B was invoked from same constitution that was initially ignored. It states that "In a situation where the election could not hold, a caretaker committee shall be set up by the management. And in Sub section B, " That such committee shall not last more than three (3) months.
Three months have past since April 22nd when the caretaker committee was ingurated. Yet no election because they still refuse to do the right thing. Which is simple. Follow the constitution. And follow it to the last. Not only when it favours the management.
Now its time to ask the unanswered question and put things string for our students to be fully aware of the main stories.
1. Why was the issue of ND result be introduced into the system, since its not found in our constitution?.
2. Why was the election not conducted immediately after the SIEC was dissolved?.
3. Why was the constitution followed when it was time to appoint caretaker committee.?
4. What is the caretaker committee still doing in office since their tenure have elapsed since July. Or is that not three months again?
5. Why was ND result or 3.00 G.P.A. not used for Caretaker committee appointment.?
6. Why is it only the aspirant who sincerely want to be leaders will constitution not be used for.?
7. Finally why change our system of election and disqualify those who have 3.00 and above in the semester that proceeds the election as the constitution demands.?
Its on this note I call on all students of this noble institution, the polytechnic of the moments to remains strong for the journey to freedom and true leadership was never designed to be easy. Therefore as we Keep our HOPE ALIVE in Jesus, its expected we win over and have reasons to smile again. At that time. We shall have our election as demanded by the constitution and the constitution will be respected fully. Then we will have true leadership that we represent our Interest in the affairs of Discussions.
